Over priced for the quality of food. The duck was very dry. And service was slow. We expected more. Was it because it was easter Saturday don't know. But I won't be back again.

I had an absolutely delicious dinner! We went with Makan time and ordered the Soft shell crab bao buns and satay chicken! It was cooked to perfection! The bao bun was soft and the sambal hit the spot with the crunchy soft shell crab! And for the mains we chose the aromatic fried chicken and beef ribs! The beef ribs were out of this world! It was sooo goood! A must try in Melbourne! A hidden gem in an alleyway!

Must to say that this restaurant has the food really perfect one. I love coconut rice, it's really coconut rice, it wasn't put coconut oil like another. 10 scores, the food they cook all the same, how come ah😕😕😕❤️♥️. The sauce when I eat with coconut rice, it's awesome 😊😊😊. I want to eat it more more. I love Indonesian foooooooooooooodddddddddd. Love this restaurant. Yayyyyy👋👋👋👋👋👋🙏🙏🙏🙏

Wonderful place, both the starters and main dishes were very tasty and was a decent portion. The bebek goreng and egg&tofu pancake were my favourite, but everything we tried was great. They had unique and tasty cocktails as well. The staff was friendly and service was good. Only negative is that the music was a bit too loud. Would recommend.

We visited Makan as a large group, and while the restaurant has a nice ambiance, the experience for vegetarians was disappointing. There were only two vegetarian options on the menu, which was already quite limiting. Both of us ordered Sayur, and honestly, it was one of the blandest dishes I’ve ever had. It lacked seasoning and any real depth of flavor. We couldn’t even finish our plates, which were left nearly full. The real concern, though, was the quality of ingredients—both of us ended up with an upset stomach later that night. This raises questions about freshness and food safety, which is something the restaurant seriously needs to improve. While some in our group had a better experience with their meals, I wouldn’t recommend this place for vegetarians. Hopefully, they can work on their ingredient quality and shelf life to ensure a better experience for all diners.

great Malaysian food. got the 40pp set menu and was very full off it. very tasty food, quick service. no complaints at all. highly recommend and will be coming back.

Really cannot makan.. Food taste is mostly extreme. Too salty for mee goreng. Too sweet on drinks. Service is hard to get hold but not bad bad. 3 stars. Location is clean and proper But really food is no no.

This restaurant (Makan) is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed. The food was beyond delicious, and authentic flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The presentation was a perfect 10/10, and the service was just as outstanding. The staff was warm, attentive, and made our dining experience even more enjoyable. We can’t wait to come back and try more dishes. Highly recommend!

Lovely Dining Experience I had dinner reservations on 21st February to celebrate our belated Valentine’s Day since my partner was away. It was my first time back at Makan in a while, and I was so excited to introduce Indonesian food to my British/Aussie partner — and it definitely didn’t disappoint! We ordered the beef satay, mussels, and lamb & beef rendang for our mains — all absolutely delicious! The flavours were authentic, rich, and beautifully presented. We paired our meal with refreshing cocktails recommended by one of the lovely waiters, and they matched perfectly. Every time someone asks me for restaurant recommendations, Makan is always at the top of my list — not only for the amazing food but also for their warm, friendly service. Special shoutout to Fabio, the bartender — what a champion! His smile, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality made us feel so welcome and well taken care of. Thank you, Fabio and the team, for such a memorable evening. I can’t wait to come back! :)

First impression, comfy looking decor, menu looks good. Staff are nice. Food arrive, nice entrees but they are sweet? Maybe just the entree Main arrives, confusion hits. Why is everything sweet????? Lamb very fatty cuts, deep fried and douched in this sweet syrup. Couldn’t eat it after 2 bites. The chicken, crispy texture on the outside but flavourless, doesn’t taste like anything. Sat there chewing on this poached chicken like interior. Really twisted my arm to buy their $9 sambal, which was also mid. I have been to Indonesia and this is the furtherest from it. Close to Filipino food if anything (given everything is sweet). It’s fine to do whatever fusion you did here but just don't call it Indonesian food. High expectations but didn’t live up to it.

My first time to try Indonesian dishes, and it was an interesting experience. We ordered a variety of dishes, including Gohu, Urutan, Jagung Bakar, Ayam Bakar Betutu, Rendang Sapi, Tahu Sambal Ijo, and Nasi Putih. The atmosphere was great—relaxed and vibrant, which added to the dining experience. As for the food, I found some dishes a bit too spicy and oily for my taste, but my Indonesian colleagues absolutely loved everything. They were particularly fond of the rich flavors and the variety of textures in the dishes, which gave me a good insight into authentic Indonesian cuisine. Overall, it’s a good spot to explore Indonesian flavors, especially if you enjoy bold, spicy dishes. While it wasn’t quite to my taste, I can see why it’s a hit with those who love this style of food. Definitely worth a visit if you’re curious about Indonesian cuisine.

Great food very authentic to mainly Bali. Would be nice to see some dishes from Kalimantan. Expensive but worth it. The service was amazing and the staff were happy to speak in Bahasa.

Really good Indonesian restaurant with a wonderful selection of cocktails. We did the "chef selection" option and the dishes were delicious and the portions were really generous. Good value for money.

Good location in the heart of the CBD. Great atmosphere within the restaurant. Staff were attentive. Had a feedme banquet as went with work for Christmas breakup, the restaurant catered for all as we had a number of people with group with food intolerances. The dishes were great and definitely flavour bombs. I would be happy to go again and choose from menu. Overall a great evening spent with colleagues.

I absolutely love dining at Makan; it's one of my favourite Indonesian restaurants, and I make sure to visit every year. The menu has expanded so much since my last visit, and I’m loving all the new additions! The staff are amazing, always providing top-notch hospitality, who has such a lovely personality and truly understands your vibe and energy. Here are a few of my new favourite dishes: the Tuna Tartar with crackers, Grilled Corn Riblets, Tofu & Asian Greens, and the melt-in-your-mouth Lamb Ribs. I also had a spicy Tamarind cocktail, which had the perfect kick of spice! Highly recommend this place!

Nestled in a laneway, Makan was superb!! We loved the vibe and everything we tried, but top favorites include the chicken skewers, ceviche, barramundi, and duck fried rice. Photos don’t do it justice. Big, delicious flavors. Very friendly and attentive staff too. We’d recommend to any friends in Melbourne!
